Orthotics–What are they?
Orthotics are devices made to assist an individual’s biomechanical function and either support, increase or restrict particular movements through the feet. They can be used to manage an array of conditions, and are used for people of all ages. There are two main types we refer to when talking about orthotics; custom and prefabricated, I will go into more detail in the coming weeks about what I mean by this.
However common conditions we use orthotics to manage are:
- Corns
- Callous
- Plantar fasciitis
- Chronic tendinopathies,
- Bunions
- Bursitis
- Hammer toes
- Arthritis
- Arch pain
- Heel pain
- Calf pain
- Knee pain
- And even back pain
Orthotics are also available in a wide variety of shapes sizes and colors enabling them to suit each person’s individual needs.
And we use them as part of a management plan, to provide individuals with a holistic approach leading to optimal outcomes.
